Articuno - Part 1: The Scroll

I stumbled upon an old journal by a 17th century explorer. He told the story of how, after a particularly nasty shipwreck, he became marooned on a then unnamed island (Seafoam Islands South). He talks about how he took shelter in a cave, only to discover that it was part of a vast cave system that eventually led him to the mountain range in the middle of the island. There he described seeing pillars of stone, carved into the shape of a strange bird. Eventually, he was rescued by a group of monks in blue and white robes that took him to a temple, deep in the snowy hills. I managed to track down the location of the scroll and to my surprise, it was still in his family's possession. After contacting them they were kind enough to allow me to view the scroll in person. It was faded, but I could clearly see a stylised ink painting of a blue bird. Using description AI I managed to loosely translate a small portion of the text.

‘Larger than a mountain, bringer of snow and ice’...
